Don't forget! The book club will be meeting during REBEL today in the library.
The English department has organized a trip for senior students to go to the Whistler Writer's Festival Today. We were fortunate enough to be able to hear Joseph Boyden read from his upcoming novel and hear Katherena Vermette read from her prize winning poetry book "North End Love Songs". It was fascinating to hear about how they get their inspiration for writing and how important it is to incorporate where they are from in their poems and stories.
This is a reminder for all Work Experience Students and peer tutors that they will be meeting with Mrs. Schenk today in the library.
There are several meetings happening today in the library:
1. Student council question and answer session at lunch time 2. PAC meeting at 7:00pm Today is the first day that the book club is meeting. We will be reading the book "I Am Malala" this month in celebration of Malala Yousafzai becoming the youngest person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Everyone is welcome! Meet on the couches in the library learning commons if you would like to join!
We would like to wish all the students and staff at Howe Sound Secondary a wonderful Thanksgiving Weekend! We hope you will have time to relax and curl up with a good book. Today we are very excited to have a visit by guest author Richard Wagamese in Block C. If you don't get the opportunity to hear him speak today, please come to Totem Hall tonight from 5-8pm to see him there!
If you'd like to read some of his amazing stories, please check out our display of his books in the library. There is a meeting TODAY at lunch in the library with Mr. Bent for all students who are interested in volunteering with the Free the Children Project and traveling to Kenya during the 2015 spring break! It has been a busy first week in the HSS Learning Commons. Hopefully by now everyone has signed out their textbooks for the semester. If you are still registering for courses and need textbooks please see Mrs. Sutherland in the library to sign them out as soon as you can.
Just a quick reminder to all grade 10 students - If you have any overdue books from Don Ross Secondary School, please return them to the HSS Library so they can be checked in and returned to DRSS for you! |
